My Tedx Experience: Stepping Onto The Red Dot With Just Four Days' Notice

Giving a TEDx talk has been on my bucket list for years, but when the opportunity finally arrived, it came with a twist—just four days' notice to prepare!

But how could I say no? TEDx is all about spreading ideas that matter, and if there’s one thing I’m passionate about, it’s helping people take control of their financial future. So, with barely enough time to panic, I set to work on crafting a talk that would resonate, inspire, and most importantly—empower people to act when it comes to their money.

The Silent Cost of Doing Nothing

The event, TEDxYouth@HabsElstree, was held at Haberdashers’ Elstree Schools—the school I provide financial education workshops for the students, my old school, and now the school one of my children attends. The theme? Shaping Tomorrow. A perfect fit for my message:

“The Silent Cost of Doing Nothing: Why Your Future Bank Balance Starts Now.”

In my talk, I explored how avoiding financial decisions isn’t just harmless procrastination—it’s a hidden cost that chips away at opportunities, financial freedom, and long-term security. The good news? You don’t need to be a financial expert to turn it around. Small, simple actions—starting today—can make all the difference.

The TEDx Stage: Nerve-Wracking and Incredible

Standing on that iconic red dot, speaking to an audience of students and professionals, was both exhilarating and terrifying. But what made it truly special was the fact that the entire event was organised by students—15- to 18-year-olds who handled every detail with impressive professionalism. Their dedication and passion were beyond inspiring, and it was an honour to be part of something that showcased the incredible talent of the next generation.

Lessons from the TEDx Journey

  • Opportunities don’t always come at the “perfect” time—take them anyway.
  • Financial decisions, no matter how small, shape your future.
  • Inspiring the next generation is just as important as guiding the current one.

The official video of my talk will be released soon, but until then, I’ll be carrying this experience with me—not just as a personal milestone, but as a reminder of why I do what I do.

To everyone who supported me through the whirlwind of preparation—thank you. And if you’ve ever thought about stepping onto a TEDx stage—do it. It’s one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever do.
